‘In the world of sustainable aviation, systems are being developed that operate quietly in the background but are crucial for the future of flying,’ Kermans says. ‘These air management and thermal management systems are hidden inside the aircraft. Unless you are an aeronautical engineer, you will probably never see them, but their impact is undeniable. They play a vital role in enabling sustainable flying.’
Aeronamic is leading the TePS project within Aviation in Transition, said Kermans. The project is a collaboration with TU Delft, University of Twente, NLR and Collins Aerospace. Each partner brings in specialist expertise, from modelling and design optimisation to production and testing. In this way, all aspects are covered and the most effective solution found. ‘Together, we focus on developing innovative air and thermal management systems needed for more electric aircraft and the next generation of sustainable aviation.’
Air management and thermal management
Aeronamic focuses on two key technologies: air management and thermal management. Air management ensures proper air supply to fuel cells, while thermal management prevents overheating and ensures reliability of electronic systems. ‘New and innovative air and thermal management systems are essential for sustainable aviation. Without these systems, hydrogen and electric aircraft would not be possible,’ Kermans explains.
To meet the demands of modern aviation, the systems must be both effective and efficient. Kermans: ‘To achieve this, we combine advanced technology with hard work. Our team consists of experts, including PhD-level specialists, who use advanced modelling to optimise these systems for maximum performance.’
Aeronamic works closely with system builders in the aircraft industry and their suppliers to ensure the systems meet the industry's most stringent requirements. ‘Our goal is to see these air and heat management systems on board future aircraft to contribute to a cleaner more sustainable future for aviation,’ says Kermans.
Aeronamic's dream? Kermans: ‘Flying without guilt about environmental impact. At Aeronamic, we are working to make this dream a reality by developing systems that contribute to making aviation more sustainable. Together, we can make the world a better place, flight by flight.’
