With its vast and varied terrain and large, managed airspace, Twente Airport is known in the Netherlands as an ideal test environment for both manned and unmanned flight operations and regularly hosts exercises by the Royal Netherlands Air Force, the National Police and Twente Fire Brigade.
Experimental drones
The Environment and Transport Inspectorate (ILT) has granted State of Motion, as part of Drone Flight Company and partner within Space53, the authority to test experimental drones at Technology Base. The decision brings another step closer to a fully-fledged test site where full experimentation with innovative technology can take place in Twente.
Twente Airport thus has the necessary test space for various drone projects, such as the development of new drone monitoring technology, safety concepts and new applications with drones in European projects.
The exemption allows operators and developers to save important time. The experimental and therefore not yet certified technology can be assessed at Twente Airport whether it is safe enough to test with.
